Senior Planner/Department Head
The position provides opportunities to lead the award-winning planning and urban design departments and be a hands-on planner and manager for a wide range of exciting projects including TODs, planning and design for mass transit and transportation projects, specific plans, master plans, EIRs, campus projects, revitalization plans, streetscape projects, pedestrian plans and community plans for both public and private sectors. Experience and expertise in project management, as well as management of a small staff, proposal writing/business development, land use/urban planning/design in California, excellent writing and communication skills, strong physical design and policy planning, and carrying a project from conceptual design through construction documents are required. A Master’s degree in Planning or related field and at least 15 years of experience in planning/urban design are required, with a least five years at a private consulting firm. California experience in Specific Plans and AICP are required. Experience in transportation planning and an undergraduate degree in Architecture or Landscape Architecture are desirable.

Senior Landscape Architect
Gruen’s Urban Design, Planning and Landscape Department provides urban/streetscape design, planning, landscape architecture and planning, and transportation services. The position requires an innovative and experienced Senior Landscape Architect with abilities to design, manage projects and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams. Working experience in southern California is preferred for plant material knowledge and experience with local agencies. Landscape construction knowledge, attention to detail, and strong communication skills through visual, graphic and speaking abilities are highly valued. Applicant should pull from all experiences and have flexibility to design at a range of scales and related environments. Experience managing projects where the Landscape Architect is the prime consultant is desired, along with experience managing, coordinating and overseeing numerous sub-consultants. Responsibilities will include field investigation, research, analysis, planning, sustainable design, graphics production, CAD drafting + modeling, and public outreach.
Key Aspects of Position:
- Design process from Concept to Construction Documentation
- Write project narratives and design reports
- Provide project management duties to include project schedule and budget
- Engage with clients with well-articulated proposals and presentations
- Generate high quality project graphics
Required Skills and Experience:
- 7-10+ years professional experience
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Sketch-Up, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop
- Writing and communication skills
- Degree in Landscape Architecture is required.
